The project investigates the ambiguity of images in the age of digital hypertrophy, bringing together research and insights from the past two years while focusing on the image of the fall and the consequent search for fragile balances. The artist stages a multimedia journey composed of precarious installations: screens, sculptures, and other ephemeral systems present themselves to the viewer in their own vulnerability, concealing— as in the case of the image-emitting devices— their primary content. The images, no longer visible to the eye, turn into luminous traces; they are— in the artist’s words— ‘ghosts that struggle to reveal themselves, lights emanating from a body we cannot see.’ Here the viewer, deprived of the possibility of recognizing the content of the transmission, is forced to rely on something they do not know and cannot experience. This condition does not differ much from the relationship we entertain daily with media images: even when contents appear in their seeming objectivity, we are urged to question their truthfulness and the effects their dissemination has on us. Today’s images are indeed often defined as ‘operational’— contents conceived by machines for other machines— and as such are manipulable both in fact and in intent. Reality thus becomes an unstable device, just like Spanò’s delicate installations. The artist invokes the act of falling as a last attempt to escape the complex conditions in which contemporary narratives find themselves. Let Me Fall is an invitation to let the veil of surrogate certainties drop and to move like tightrope walkers through the intricate layers of the real.
